uJPM Sensor - Line Follower - (AD75525)

Description:

The Line Follower Sensor is an add-on for your Arduino that gives your robot the ability to detect lines or nearby objects. The sensor works by detecting reflected light from its own infrared LED. By measuring the amount of reflected infrared light, it can detect light-to-dark transitions (lines) or even objects directly in front of it.

The sensor has a 3-pin connector that connects via female-to-male jumpers. A mounting hole allows you to easily connect one or more of these to the front or back of any robot chassis.

The QRE1113 IR reflectance sensor on the board is made up of two parts: an IR-emitting LED and an IR-sensitive phototransistor. When you apply power to the VCC and GND pins, the IR LED inside the sensor will light up. A 100Ω resistor is built in and placed in series with the LED to limit the current. A 10kΩ resistor pulls the output pin high, but when light from the LED reflects back to the phototransistor, the output will begin to drop. The more IR light the phototransistor detects, the lower the breakout board's output voltage will be.
