Description:

Odometers are extremely useful for cars, as they indicate the distance traveled. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have a device that did the same thing with electrical current? The LTC4150 Coulomb Counter Breakout is your current odometer. If you're wondering: a coulomb is defined, simply put, as an ampere-second. This breakout is able to constantly monitor the current your sensor uses, sum it up, and give you a pulse every time a certain amount of amp-hours has been used. If used correctly and you start with a full battery, you'll always know exactly how much is left!

On one end of the Coulomb Counter Breakout are the IN and OUT connectors. Connect your battery or power supply to the IN connector or the JST battery connector (they are identical) and the OUT connector to your project. On the other end of the Coulomb Counter you'll find a six-pin connector. These are the pins you'll need to connect to your microcontroller: VIO (Voltage Input), INT (Interrupt), POL (Polarity), GND (Ground), CLR (Clear) and SHDN (Shutdown). Simply install this connection between your power supply and your circuit. This way, all the current consumed by your circuit will pass through the Coulomb Counter to be measured.

Features:

  • Operating Voltage: 2.7V - 8.5V
  • Operating Current: 1A
  • Indicates charge quantity and polarity
  • ±50mV sensing voltage range
  • 32.55 Hz/V charge counting frequency
  • 1.5μA shutdown current
