Description:
The ZX Gesture and Distance Sensor is a non-contact sensor capable of detecting simple gestures. Developed in collaboration with XYZ Interactive, it uses GestureSense® technology to recognize an object’s distance up to approximately 30 cm (12 inches), known as the “Z” axis, and the object’s location side-to-side along the sensor in a space of approximately 15 cm (6 inches), known as the “X” axis. You will be able to use I₂C or UART to communicate with the ZX Sensor through a microcontroller or computer.
The ZX Sensor works by bouncing infrared (IR) light beams from the two LEDs on either side of the object above the sensor. The bounced light returns to the receiver in the center of the sensor, and a microcontroller on the back interprets the data. With these IR sensors, you can easily determine both the Z and X axes of an object (hence the name). In addition to providing Z and X axis data about an object, the ZX Sensor can detect simple gestures. We've also clearly labeled all of the pins on the board, indicating whether they are needed for I2C or UART communication.
