Description:

The SparkFun AS7263 near-infrared (NIR) spectral sensor puts spectroscopy at your fingertips, making it easier than ever to measure and characterize how different materials absorb and reflect different wavelengths of light. The AS7263 is unique in its ability to communicate using both an I²C interface and a serial interface using AT commands. Connection is simple thanks to the board’s Qwiic connectors: simply plug one end of the Qwiic cable into the connector and the other into one of the Qwiic shields, then stack the board on top of a development board. You’ll be able to upload a sketch and start taking spectroscopic measurements in no time.

The AS7263 spectrometer detects wavelengths in the visible range at 610, 680, 730, 760, 810, and 860 nm, each with a 20 nm full-width-at-half-maximum detection range. The board also offers multiple ways to illuminate the objects being measured for a more accurate spectroscopic reading. It features an integrated LED, designed specifically for this task, as well as two pins for soldering the LED itself.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect system is an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables that streamlines prototyping and reduces the likelihood of errors. All Qwiic-compatible boards use a common 4-pin, 1mm-pitch JST connector. This reduces the PCB space required, and polarized connections ensure a secure connection.
