Description:

Basically, to control a matrix, you connect its rows and columns to your Arduino board. The columns are connected to the anodes of the LEDs, so a column needs to be HIGH for any of the LEDs in that column to light up. The rows are connected to the cathodes of the LEDs, so the row needs to be LOW for an individual LED to light up. If both the row and column are HIGH or LOW, no voltage flows through the LED, and it does not light up. To control an individual LED, you set its column to HIGH and its row to LOW. To control multiple LEDs in a row, set the row to LOW, then take the column to LOW, then set the columns to HIGH or LOW as appropriate; a HIGH column will light up the corresponding LED, and a LOW column will turn it off. Pins configured as OUTPUT using the PinMode command are set to HIGH if not otherwise indicated.
