Description:

These 0.6mm Flexinol® Actuator Wires (also known as shape memory Nitinol) are a one foot long piece of nickel-titanium alloy that can flex and contract when a specific amount of heat or current is applied and are manufactured specifically for linear actuators to replace small motors or solenoids. If you're asking yourself "What witchcraft is this?" we assure you this is not magic, it’s simply simple science thanks to shape memory and a switch between the wires weaker, lower temperature (martensitic) and its stronger, higher temperature (austenite) form.

When the Flexinol® is in its martensitic form, you can form and bend it into different shapes. However, when an electrical current of ~200mA is applied to the wire, or it is heated to ~100°C, it returns to its austenite form and reverts to its previous shape with great force. What’s more, you can anneal it at ~500°C (use an industrial oven or just a lighter) to give it any shape you want; then, once that current or heat is applied, it will return to that new shape.

Note: These are the “HT” type wires.
