Description:

A Schmitt trigger is a comparator circuit with hysteresis. This means that switching action can occur at different points for a given signal. The Schmitt trigger retains its output until a large enough signal is received to change it. This forces switching only at significant voltage changes as compared to the rest of the signal. So, if you have a noisy signal, it will clean up the signal in slightly different ways than a traditional comparator.
