Description:
Thermoelectric coolers (TEC or Peltier) create a temperature difference on each side. One side is heated and the other is cooled. Therefore, they can be used to either heat or cool something, depending on which side is used. They can also take advantage of a temperature difference to generate electricity. The thermal tape listed below works great for attaching heat sinks to the hot side.
This Peltier works very well, as long as you remove the heat from the hot side. After turning on the device, the hot side heats up quickly, while the cold side cools down quickly. If you don't remove the heat from the hot side (with a heat sink or other device), the Peltier will quickly reach stasis and do nothing . We recommend using an old computer CPU heatsink or other metal block to draw heat from the hot side. We've been able to use a CPU power supply heatsink to make the cold side so uncomfortable that we couldn't keep our finger on it.
Note: It is imperative that a heat sink be used on the hot side of the module. Running the module without one can cause damage to this part. If it's too hot to touch comfortably, you're in the danger zone!
