Description:

The SN54/74LS247 through SN54/74LS249 are BCD to seven-segment decoder/drivers. The LS247 and LS248 are functionally and electrically identical to the LS47 and LS48, with the same pin assignments. The LS249 is a 16-pin version of the 14-pin LS49 and includes full lamp test and ripple blanking capabilities, features not available in the LS49. All character compositions, except for 6 and 9, are identical in the LS247, 248, and 249, and in the LS47, 48, and 49. The LS47 through 49 compose the and with no tails, while the LS247 through 249 compose the and with tails. The LS247 features active-low outputs for direct control of indicators. The LS248 and 249 feature active-high outputs for controlling lamp buffers. All models include a lamp test input and ripple blanking input/output controls. All models incorporate automatic zero suppression control (RBI and RBO) on the input and/or output edge, as well as a blanking override input (BI), which can be used to control lamp intensity by pulsing or to inhibit lamp test from the output. This test can be performed at any time when the BI/RBO node is high. Segment identification and resulting displays are shown below. The display pattern for BCD input counts greater than 9 is composed of unique symbols to authenticate input conditions.
