Description:
Ever wished your project could talk and tell you what’s going on? Why not give it a voice? The Emic-2 Text-to-Speech Module makes it extremely easy to give your embedded projects a voice.
The Emic-2 was designed by Parallax in collaboration with Grand Idea Studio to make speech synthesis a simple tool. Simply connect the Emic-2 to a 5VDC power supply, connect a speaker to the speaker output (or to the 3.1mm headphone jack), and send it a serial stream of text at 9600 bps. The module contains all the intelligence needed to parse text into phonemes and generate natural-sounding speech; the host controller only has to send serial strings.
The module’s command set is entirely comprised of printable ASCII characters and allows for changing languages (English or Spanish), toggling between 9 different voices, and even controlling speech parameters on the fly. The module also communicates back to your system so you can get configuration, version information, and even "speech-complete" indicators from the board.
If you’ve ever considered building a robot that sings your Twitter or wakes you up in the morning with random snippets of beat poetry, this is the way to do it!
