Description:

The Sharp GP2Y0A710K0F distance sensor is a great way to add motion detection or obstacle avoidance to your robot or any other project. With a detection range of 100cm-500cm and an analog voltage indicating distance, this sensor is very easy to use. Its long range makes it a good alternative to sonar sensors.

This extra-long-range SHARP distance sensor bounces infrared light off objects to determine how far away they are. It returns an analog voltage that can be used to determine how close the nearest object is. It comes with a 6" long JST-6 interface cable. These sensors are good for detection between 100 cm and 500 cm (1 to 5 meters / 3 to 15 feet). The long range makes them a good alternative to sonar sensors.

Please note: the wire colors are not intuitive! Caution before wiring! The datasheet has wiring details. Connect the two outer ground wires to ground, the two 'VCC' wires to a 5VDC supply, and read the analog signal from the Vo wire. The analog voltage output will range from 3V when an object is about 100cm away to 1.4V when the object is 500cm away. For a full graph showing distance to analog range, see the datasheet below.

These sensors tend to be a bit noisy, so we suggest soldering/connecting the included 220uF capacitor to the same location where you connect the wires, to provide some filtering at the power supply. Connect the + pin of the capacitor to the Vcc wire connection, and the - pin of the capacitor to the GND wire connection.

The Sharp GP2Y0A710K0F IR Range Sensor takes a continuous distance reading and reports the distance as an analog voltage with a distance range of 100cm to 550cm.

The interface is 5-wire with power, ground, and output. This sensor comes with a 5-pin JST cable.
