Description:
The PICkit 3 can now also reprogram any PIC microcontroller at the touch of a button: Learn more about the Programmer-To-Go feature .
The MPLAB PICkit 3 enables affordable debugging and programming of PIC® and dsPIC® Flash microcontrollers using the powerful graphical user interface of the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The MPLAB PICkit 3 connects to the design engineer’s PC via a high-speed USB interface and can be connected to the target device via a Microchip debug connector (RJ-11) (compatible with MPLAB ICD 2, MPLAB ICD 3, and MPLAB REAL ICE). The connector uses two I/O pins on the device and the reset line to implement in-circuit debugging and Serial In-Circuit Programming™.
Some 8-, 14-, and 18-pin devices use small header boards with a special MCU for debugging. This special MCU has additional pins for communication with the PICkit 3, allowing all of the component's pins to be used for the application. The header board is not used or required for programming. However, when debugging these devices, the header must be used.
The Microchip PICkit™ 3 in-circuit debugger/programmer uses in-circuit debug logic integrated into each chip with Flash memory to provide a low-cost hardware debugger and programmer.
NOTE: THIS IS A GENERIC VERSION OF THE PICkit™ 3 In-Circuit Debugger
