Description:
The AD8232 is a low-cost, cost-effective, on-board heart rate monitor used to measure the heart's electrical activity. This electrical activity can be plotted as an electrocardiogram, or ECG, and output as an analog reading. ECGs can be extremely noisy, so the AD8232 is a simple heart rate monitor that acts as an operational amplifier to help easily obtain a clear signal for PR and QT intervals.
The AD8232 is an integrated signal conditioning block for other ECG and biopotential measurement applications. It is designed to extract, amplify, and filter small biopotential signals in the presence of noisy conditions, such as those created by movement or remote electrode placement.
The AD8232 heart rate monitor has nine IC connections where pins, wires, or other connectors can be soldered. SDN, LO+, LO-, OUTPUT, 3.3V, and GND provide essential pins for operating this monitor with another Arduino development board. Also provided on this board are RA (right arm), LA (left arm), and RL (right leg) pins for placing and using your own custom sensors. Additionally, there is an LED indicator light that pulses in time with the heartbeat. Biomedical sensors and sensor cables are required for use with the heart rate monitor.
