Lighting

Incandescent lamps work by heating a metal filament (such as tungsten) until it glows due to the Joule effect. In electronics, although obsolete for lighting, they are used as self-regulating current-limiting resistors, short-circuit protection, or thermal noise generators in analog and test circuits.
